Automated baggage handing screens for major UK airport
Working with Vanderlande, the market’s largest original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and supplier of logistic process automation for airports, Hart Doors has won a contract to supply 60 high-speed screens for a new baggage handling system at a major UK International airport.
This revolutionary high-speed conveyor door is designed for high-frequency conveyor systems, providing security and safety between the public area and baggage system mechanics. The modular construction, designed and manufactured in the UK and shipped worldwide, easily interfaces with third-party equipment.
Hart’s managing director, Nick Hart, says by working directly with the airport and Vanderlande they agreed the detailed specification, and built test/prototype units after which the contract was agreed,” says Nick.
“The high-speed screens are to operate with every bag that is checked into the airport. The door system communicates with both the baggage handling and the security systems so that it can be interrogated remotely from anywhere in the world.”
The three-phase contract is well underway with the final phase due to be finished and despatched by mid-July.
Mr Hart adds: “This type of contract, which requires developing the right solution to match specific needs of the client, is exactly what we can do. We have a first-class team that is capable of planning the solution and taking it through prototyping to delivery. It’s a good contract for us, it’s been a typical Hart team effort.”
With the demand for self-service check-in and baggage drop, these systems need to be reliable and innovative to handle the millions of passengers that go through the airport every year. This automated technology will be even more critical after the current COVID-19 crisis as passengers look for ways to limit interaction.
