Motor
Safedrive direct drive geared motor unit including limit over–run protection. High precision worm gearbox incorporating separate safety brake negates the necessity for auxiliary safety brake. Plug-in prewired control system with integral press buttons. Where side room is at a premium, a flange mounted chain driven motor can be used instead, reducing the side room however a safety brake will be required at the non motor end with requirements to circa 200mm. Consult Hart for details.
Control Panel
The control panel with up, down, stop press buttons and digital display, facility to set the motor limits from ground level and optionally increasing features dependant on the specification. Housed in an IP65 enclosure, and mounted approximately 1.2M above floor level, it meets the requirements of BS EN 12453.
Wiring & Power Supply
The standard unit is prewired with a surface fixed braided cable and requires a three phase 380-440v & neutral socket mounted approximately 0.5m from the opening and 1.5m above floor level on the motor side
ENGINEERING
Size
Normal maximum width is 8m x 8m however larger sizes are available
Curtain
75mm convex interlocking galvanised roller shutter laths retained at ends by malleable steel end wearing lugs riveted on via solid steel rivets. This section is available in three thicknesses 18G, 20G and 22G this considerably varies the cost and significantly improves rigidity, security and wind resistance as the section thickness increases.
Standard is galvanised. Curtain options include plastisol pre finish, powder coat (max 8m) or acrylic paint. The door curtain, guides and bottom rail optional in powder coat. Non galvanised surfaces such as heavy support angles, additional frames and tube will be finished in black undercoat.
Bottom Rail
Standard Tee section with optional rubber seal. Note There must be a fall of the door threshold to the outside as this seal in not sufficient to prevent wind blown water penetration without a step or proprietary drainage system.
Door guides/wind resistance
Optional guide depth 50, 75,100 for standard guides and 65 or 100 wind guides coupled with wind end lugs to achieve class 5 wind resistance
End Plates
Steel end plate with steel angle fixing to door frame. The end plates support the weight of the shutter and are fixed through the angles.
Roller
The steel hollow tube supports the door and the diameter is calculated not to exceed deflection 1/400.
Hoods
Optional hood around the roller for dust, and weather sealing combined with optional motor cover, all in galvanised or pre-finished materials.

Normal Operation
Press buttons in full view of door. Impulse open and “hold to run” close. Options include key switch. To operate by momentary pressure, safety systems need to be included light curtain or safe edge and photocell
Manual Override
All doors are supplied as standard with a ground floor hand chain operation with floor level engagement or crank handle operation at the motor. Note this is heavy and slow and is only for emergency use
Safety
Safedrive direct drive or optionally a chain drive with separate safety brake complies to safety standard. Safety device options include safe edge on the bottom rail, photo cell protection, light curtain, movement and presence sensors, warning signs, and increased protection levels as required.
Operating Speed
Depends on door weight, size, and the drive unit and control package required. Standard travel speeds are circa100-200mm/sec with standard motors and controls. Increased speeds of up to .5 M/sec can be achieved on certain door sizes by using specialist drives and controls. Consult Hart for details
Finish
Standard roller shutters are galvanised. Curtain options include plastisol pre finish, powder coat (max 8m) or acrylic paint. The door curtain, guides and bottom rail optional in powder coat. Non galvanised surfaces such as heavy support angles, additional frames and tube will be finished in black undercoat. Weight: 25Kgs to 35kgs per square meter depending on curtain gauge.
The bottom rail is a “T” section interlocking section with optional rubber seal. The curtain is available in plastisol or powder coat finish to standard colours, larger sizes may need to be wet coat finished.
Locking
- Manually operated slip bolts on the bottom rail or pin locks on the guide, manually interlocked to the control panel to prevent accidental operation.
- Electrically operated by press button when the door is closed
- Fully automated.
- Optional Monitoring and signalling of lock status.
Size Guides
Fabricated from steel continuous angle and steel guide channel in galvanised finish and bolted at fixed centres to an appropriate structure. The guides optionally are available in power coat finish.
Frames/Hoods
Optional hood, motor hood, flashings in galvanised steel materials or in powder coat. Stainless steel options also available.
Operators
The door can be press button operated or automatically operated. Various levels of safety can be fitted including safe leading edge and or photocells movement sensors and so on. Controls should be mounted at least 1m from the door structure.
Fixing
Structural opening substrate must be suitably reinforced brickwork/concrete/steelwork as detailed in the standard LPS1175 Issue 7. It is assumed that the substrate onto which the product is fitted provides a resistance to attack at least equivalent to that afforded by the product itself.
PERFORMANCE
Speed
Standard opening Speed: 0.15 m/s
Standard Closing Speed: 0.15 m/s
