Strengthening Hart’s international presence with AUB Hong Kong
Hart Door Systems has strengthened its international presence after signing a distribution agreement with AUB Ltd, providing specialist door access solutions in Hong Kong and Macau.
With a heritage stretching back to 1946, Hart Doors is deeply ingrained in the North East’s manufacturing landscape and has built up decades of specialist engineering expertise which flows from its Newcastle base to support and deliver projects across the world. Harts premium commercial and industrial doors can be found in over 35 countries worldwide with Hong Kong the latest to be added to the list.
AUB’s experienced team offer in-depth market knowledge and product know-how on a range of commercial, institutional and residential door access solutions. The partnership with AUB began when Doug Hart, Chairman at Hart Door Systems visited Hong Kong in 2019. During this visit, it was clear there was a need for a product that not only satisfied the high-security requirements like that of Hart’s Terror Screen LPS1175 SR rated shutters, but also a typhoon grade roller shutter made to withstand extreme weather conditions for facilities with large openings in exposed locations.
Following talks with AUB, Hart designed a typhoon shutter with an enhanced guide channel, heavier gauge curtain and Hart manufactured wind locks.
Doug Hart commented: “I was caught in the middle of a typhoon in Hong Kong, which prompted discussions with Andreas Brechbuhl, Managing Director at AUB Ltd. We realised the great opportunities for such a product, so when I returned to the UK, I immediately deliberated with the Hart design team and came up with this new product, the Typhoon Shutter.
“The exceptionally strong winds in the region have given the Typhoon door a great platform and this is one of AUB’s key markets.” Added Mr Hart.
In March 2020 AUB signed the official agreement to be the main distributor of Hart products in Hong Kong and Macau, an area of the world new to Hart Doors. AUB were due to visit the UK to attend a training session at Hart offices in Westerhope, Newcastle upon Tyne, however, this was put on hold due to the Covid-19 global lockdown. Despite the challenges, AUB has worked tirelessly to promote Hart products and has won several high profile projects supplying Hart doors.
Hart’s first order from AUB was to supply 21 typhoon resistant shutters for the Terminal 1 Remote Transfer Facility and Midfield Baggage Hall for Hong Kong International Airport. The airport, built in 1998, connecting 220 destinations worldwide, handles over 71 million passengers annually.
Further orders include seven SR4 shutters for the Hong Kong Central Government and nine SR3 rated security shutters for the Hong Kong Palace Museum, a HK$3.5 billion replica of the capital’s celebrated Palace Museum at the West Kowloon Cultural District, due to open to the public in mid-2022.
The partnership has proven invaluable during covid-19 which has contributed to Hart remaining open and continuing production throughout the pandemic.
By giving consultancy, design, manufacture, shipping and offering installation and maintenance training from a single source, Hart Doors simplify project management and help customers like AUB to feel confident in their industrial door purchase wherever they are in the world.
